Friends of the City of Swansea Botanical Complex

Founded in 1994 FCSBC has raised over £100,000 for projects to benefit Plantasia, Clyne Gardens & the Botanical Garden at Singleton. Currently we are fund raising to install the Edwardian Floral Clock in the Botanical Gardens in 2010. Main source of fund raising is the Garden Shop each Saturday April to end September in the Botanical Gardens, Sketty from 10.00 to 2.00 plus every Bank Holiday. Shop stocks vegetables, herbs, perennials, shrubs and trees. Staffed by local volunteers who are happy to share their experience.

National Trust – Abertawe Centre

A Voluntary Association of National Trust members to promote and prosper the work of the National Trust and to make membership more enjoyable by holding talks & social events. A varied programme of talks on heritage issues. In the summer we arrange two mid-week coach outings, two Sunday outings and a short break holiday going North and South in alternative years. We hold an annual Christmas lunch in November at a local venue and also a Spring lunch. Some of our members provide volunteer help at Pennard Car park twice a week through the summer and also work as stewards at Dinefwr. Indoor Meetings held in Sketty Parish Centre.

Oystermouth Historical Association

Local History organisation covering Oystermouth (also known as Mumbles).

Glamorgan Family History Society – Swansea Branch

Llangiwg Community Association

The Llangiwg Community Association. The main purpose of the charity is to preserve and conserve the former church at Llangiwg for the enjoyment and benefit of the present and future generations.

The church is grade 2 listed and dates back to the 6th Century. The church was de-consecrated in 2004 and was purchased by the community in 2007. A community association (Friends of Llangiwg) was established in 2006, to promote social and community activity, with the Llangiwg Community Association formed in 2008 to undertake the responsibility of the building, its conservation and protection for future generations.

Part of this responsibility is to educate and to increase access to the church for the wider community, and through this, to increase awareness and to educate the local, regional and national community in the appreciation of the cultural, historic and natural environment of the area.

Jazz Heritage Wales

Historical Association: Swansea Branch

The Historical Association is an independent charity that supports the study and enjoyment of history (including local history). Vivian Hall Antiques Club

Vivian Hall antiques club. The club aims to help everyone gain pleasure and knowledge from furniture, pictures, glass & metalware etc; all of which can be found at antiques fairs and shops both locally and throughout the UK. Meetings take the form of guest speakers, often local, who provide talks on a vast range of topics, including local history, using slides or computer presentations. Many bring items with them. They will look at items brought in by members/visitors. Refreshments are always provided when visitors & members can chat with the guest and each other, and there is usually a raffle.

Swansea Eastside Historical Society

Local History Society based in St. Thomas dealing specifially with the history of the eastside of Swansea. We have some 40 members at this present time. We invite speakers to attend on various occasions to discuss local history, these discussions also include many other areas and talks and are usually accompanied by slides or films. Our weekly meetings give members a chance to mix and discuss forthcoming events. New members are always welcome.

National Waterfront Museum

The National Waterfront Museum tells the story of industry, innovation, local history and national history of  Wales, now and over the last 300 years. Sculpture by the Sea UK

A team of professional artists specialising in Environmental Art workshops and events for schools and communities. The aim is to enhance natural creativity and well-being, as well as raise environmental awareness. Annual Community Sculpture Festival run each year during July with free workshops for participants of all ages and cultures. See our website for further information and details of previous festivals. Western Front Association

The Western Front Association is a national / international historical association, with the aim of remembering the Great War and has a south wales branch. The Branch is based Cardiff and we regularly told meetings. We meet at the Fairwater conservative club, Ely Road, Fairwater, Cardiff. All are welcome. We have generally 30 – 40 attendees at each meeting. You do not have to be a WFA member to attend our meetings. If you want to join the WFA go to the Western Front Association website where instructions can be found.

We engage well-known speakers along with Branch members giving talks on a wide range of First world war topics.

Gower Festival

The purpose of the Gower Festival is to encourage the love of music in Swansea & Gower and to organise an annual festival in the last two weeks of July each year. Regular meeting or training times. Facilities available at your venue, if applicable. We have a different venue each night of the Festival. These are mostly the beautiful Gower Churches. The Gower Festival is an international Festival of classical music offering chamber and choral music. It is a registered charity and has been running an annual Festival since 1976.

Swansea Civic Society

Swansea Civic Society is committed to working locally towards promoting a quality, attractive, safe and sustainable built environment. The Society wishes to encourage local pride in our city, local history, from its industrial origins to the modern city it now is. Executive members therefore keep a careful scrutiny over planning applications and other proposals for significant change. the Society aims to be constructive in its own proposals and in its responses to any planning or strategy documents that are produced for consultation. Glamorgan History Society

Concerned over the last fifty years with nurturing the study of all aspects of the history of Glamorgan within the wider context of the history of Wales. The principal activity of the Society is the publication of the local history journal Morgannwg which contains research articles, archaeological notes, book reviees and other material related to the historic county.
